Rays' Snell first to 20 wins after beating Texas

Blake Snell threw one-hit ball for five innings to become the major leagues' first 20-game winner in two years as he helped the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

Yeah, yeah, yeah -- pitcher wins don't matter. Still, 20 wins is awesome and Blake Snell got there with five scoreless, one-hit innings for the Rays (and tying David Price for the franchise record). He's 20-5 with a 1.97 ERA and if Chris Sale doesn't qualify for the ERA title (he's at 150 innings with a 1.92 ERA), Snell could become the first AL starter with a sub-2.00 ERA since Pedro Martinez in 2000.

Tanking Tiers: Ranking MLB's rebuilders

While teams like the A's and Braves are showing you can go from rebuilding to contending, others are still trying to find their way from the basement to relevance.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The Rays beat the Indians on Ji-Man Choi's dramatic two-out walk-off home run (which included one of the best home run trots of the season). The Indians are 81-63. The Rays are 79-64. The Indians, however, are three games under .500 outside the AL Central. The Rays have been an amazing story in the second half. They're just in the wrong division.
