Hicks' HR helps Yanks top Nats 4-2 for split on odd day

Aaron Hicks' go-ahead two-run homer sparked chants of "Let's go, Yankees!" on the road and helped New York beat Washington 4-2 in the second game of an unusual semi-doubleheader Monday, after pinch-hitter Juan Soto's tiebreaking two-run shot for the...

The Nationals have acquired Royals closer Kelvin Herrera, and they didn't have to give up a whole lot to get him. Rookie sensation Juan Soto stays put in Washington, as does fellow outfielder Victor Robles. In return, KC gets three minor leaguers, the most highly rated of whom is Blake Perkins (Nats' no. 8 prospect according to Keith Law). Herrera, who has a 1.05 ERA and 14 saves, joins a Washington pen that already has three guys (Sean Doolittle, Ryan Madson, and Brandon Kintzler) with significant closing experience.

The Nationals three-game losing streak lasted negative one month. It started on June 15 and ended on May 15. Kind of. That's because Washington beat the Yankees 5-3 on Monday in the continuation of a suspended game that started on May 15.

Nats' Soto to be credited with pre-debut HR

Nats rookie Juan Soto crushed a homer Monday against the Yankees in the continuation of a game that started May 15 -- five days before his debut. It won't be considered his first major league homer, but it will be counted as having been hit May 15.

Juan Soto just broke the time-space continuum. The #Nats rookie just crushed a pinch-homer against the #Yankees in the continuation of a game that started on May 15...five days Soto made his big-league debut.

Maybe it's the slump. Maybe it's the heat. Regardless, Bryce Harper has ditched his beard. The clean-shaven slugger was out taking early batting practice at Nats Park, where the RealFeel is 99 degrees. Harper leads the NL in homers but is hitting .198 since the beginning of May, with 49 strikeouts and 13 walks.
