New York Knicks All-Star Kristaps Porzingis says he's taken a conservative approach in his rehabilitation from ACL surgery, in part because no player Porzingis' height has dealt with the same injury.

Lance Thomas says David Fizdale wants the Knicks to be one of the best conditioned teams in the league. "I'm pretty sure no team has been running as much as we've been running." Traditionally, Miami always prioritizes conditioning; Fizdale seems to be bringing that approach to New York.

Lance Thomas: "We have a lot of young guys this year and we also have fresh legs so we should be willing defenders." He adds that he's ‘100 percent sure' David Fizdale will hold players accountable on defense.

Knicks' Frank Ntilikina said he overthought things at times during his rookie season. He says David Fizdale has worked with him on that in the offseason and he feels as if that won't get in his way in Year Two.

Emmanuel Mudiay says he's spent a lot of time in the offseason working with Knicks trainers Mubarak Malik and Shimon Ishikawa to get in shape for the season.

Courtney Lee reiterates that he's excited to be a Knicks when asked about reports that suggested he asked for a trade. He suggests, as previously stated, that the report wasn't accurate.

Knicks' Tim Hardaway Jr. says he's embraced a leadership role with his younger teammates, texting and calling them over the course of the offseason in an effort to establish the culture.

Knicks' Kevin Knox says he's been impressed by Frank Ntilikina's aggressive nature on offense during pickup games. He says he's attacked the pick-and-roll in those settings.

Kristaps Porzingis says he and those around him are taking a conservative approach with his rehab from ACL surgery. "There's no protocol for a 7-3 guy." Porzingis adds that he's felt ‘good vibes' and ‘good energy' around the team since being back in New York last week.

Kristaps Porzingis says he's not thinking about the potential 5-year, $157 million extension he can sign with the Knicks prior to the season. He also declines to speculate about the possibility of missing the season when he's asked about it.

Based on the time they spent together in Latvia, Kristaps Porzingis believes that David Fizdale is the type of coach that can help him improve and reach his potential on both ends of the floor. He seems genuinely excited to play for the first-year coach.

Knicks rookie Kevin Knox was asked about his expectations for himself this season at a promotional event for Subway earlier this week. “I just want to win. I feel like that's something, in New York, they haven't seen in a while,” he told ESPN in an interview to promote Subway's new sandwiches. “So that's something that we hopefully can bring back this year, win some games. Get to the playoffs and stuff like that. Of course I want to win rookie of the year, but I can't really do that without the success of my teammates and the coaching staff, who would help me reach those goals. But the No. 1 goal in my head throughout the season is win games.”

Columbia's Jeff Coby has agreed to a deal with the Knicks, league sources confirm. Coby, a Haitian National Team standout, has worked out with the Knicks in informal sessions recently and impressed the staff. The Coby agreement was first reported by Nicola Lupo. Coby, a stretch four, is the 21st player under contract for training camp. Teams can carry a maximum of 20 players in camp. So this signing is further evidence that Joakim Noah is likely to be waived/stretched/bought out by the Knicks before training camp begins.

David Fizdale on second-year guard Frank Ntilikina: “For me, I've kind of taken a different approach with Frank than (what) everyone else wanted from Frank. I wanted to let Frank be who he's going to be. So I'm just trying to help develop the skill sets that he's going to need to become an every day player. Can he break guys down off the dribble? Is he making his open threes? We already know the kid is an elite defender. It's hard to say that about 19, 20-year-olds coming into this league. This kid can guard. So offensively I want him to get to a place where he finds himself and he's comfortable. But I'm not applying the same stuff that everybody else is putting on him, trying to make him into somebody, one of these super guards or whatever. Let's see what he turns out to be with great just consistent, detailed player development.  And we get him out on the floor and when the lights go on that will tell us everything we need to know.”

David Fizdale on the new Knicks culture

Knicks Head Coach David Fizdale weighs in on the sort of culture he's looking to create and what his expectations are for this group. Plus, when will Porzingis return??

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Knicks rookie Kevin Knox, speaking at an event for Subway, on the possibility of the team making the playoffs this season: “Oh yeah. I feel like that 8th seed is kind of still up in the air in the East. You've got a lot of good teams in the East that are playoff teams. But that eighth seed can really be up in the air,” Knox said in an interview with ESPN on Thursday at an event to promote new Subway sandwiches. “You're going to have to win some games in order to get it but I feel like that's something we can do with LeBron (James) leaving (for the Los Angeles Lakers). So I feel that that's opened up more room for teams to make that playoff push. I feel like we can be one of the teams that makes that push for the playoffs, especially with the young guys that we have and new coaching staff with (David) Fizdale. I feel like we can really make a push for that eighth seed.”

Steve Mills, speaking generally about trading draft picks for players entering free agency: "We're committed to following the plan and not just shifting, pivoting, because we see something that is attractive and might fast track something. I've seen that happen and go wrong too many times."
