Zimmer reiterates that Dalvin Cook is going to play in the preseason and that they're going to follow the plan they've had, not divert path based on O-line injuries: "We're not going to play a game scared, guys get hurt, they get hurt, that's just life. We're not going to say, 'Oh shoot, we have too many injuries.'"

Zimmer on why he elected to start Aviante Collins over Brian O'Neill at right tackle, despite O'Neill taking most of first team reps there during the week: "I just thought he (Collins) had a better week. He battled all week long, I thought he had a better week. Aviante is a very good athlete, got good strength and size to him. The way they were rushing some of the guys, some of the power rushes, I felt like he would be better."

Brian Robison's reaction to several times when the penalty for helmet contact was called, which he notes is a "very confusing rule" : "I think I'm as baffled as anyone else. We look at some of the stuff on tape, the explanations of which one are fouls and which ones aren't an some of them you look at and 'How is that a foul?' and some of them you look at and you're like, 'OK, I see that one.' To me it's just one of those things that you go and play ball and let the chips fall where they may. At the end of the day, it's a very confusing rule. I understand the posture that they're trying to keep us out of and things like that, but at the same time I've seen a lot of hits that to me are clean hits. It's kind of a 50-50 deal. You just go out there and play ball and hope the best comes out of it."

Mike Zimmer on the difficulty to build O-line continuity with so many injuries. Vikings were down four starters today and lost two reserves: "We have to get on the stick here pretty quick. I think Remmers will be back next week, which will be good. I think Elflein has a chance to get back here pretty soon. That will help. I don't know about Rashod yet so we'll see. It's tough but we're not the only ones in the league to be having these issues, I'm sure. We just have a few more than we should have at this point in time. That's life."

Antwione Williams was flagged for roughing the passer in the 2nd half, a call that Mike Zimmer wasn't happy with initially but then understood why the officials called it: "After I calmed down a little bit, I looked at it and his (Williams) head was to the side and he was going to the side. If he would have just rolled, but he kind of pumped him into the turf. I actually think that was a good call."

Jaguars beat Vikings 14-10 in defense-dominated exhibition

Yannick Ngakoue had an 11-yard sack that helped Jacksonville's defense hold Kirk Cousins and Minnesota's starting offense to three completions and three points, and the Jaguars reserves rallied for a 14-10 victory over the Vikings on Saturday.

An afternoon of ugly preseason football is finally over. Minnesota takes a 14-10 loss on a day where injuries, sloppy play and penalties marred the Vikings throughout. One of the few bright spots on offense centered around the competition for No. 3 running back. Mike Boone took a step towards leveling the position battle with 13 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown. Boone emerged as an early favorite in spring in the competition with Roc Thomas and Mack Brown and helped his case today with a handful of explosive runs. Thomas had a nice gain on a screen pass and ripped off a 15-yard run. This competition will be one to zero in on during the final two preseason games as the Vikings look to find the running back that will help them replace what they lost from Jerick McKinnon's departure.

Unimpressive day for Cousins (0:40)
Bortles has rough outing vs. Vikings defense (0:48)

Rookie Jalyn Holmes gets in the game to start the 2nd half. Jaleel Johnson slides over to nose tackle, similar to the approach the VIkings took with him last week in Denver where he switched often on the interior. Mike Zimmer said Johnson's position flexibility can help them out on game day, allowing them to possible dress one DL because they can move Johnson around. "It's good for him because it is two different techniques when you are playing nose and when you are playing the three-technique," Zimmer said. "It is good for him to do both, and it allows us to see what he is doing better, is this better or is that better."

Ugly first half for the Vikings offensively. Kirk Cousins went 3-for-8 for 12 yards in the first half in four separate drives. Vikings went 0-for-6 on third down and netted a total of 67 yards. Aside from Riley Reiff, who struggled this afternoon in limited action, the rest of the starting OL stayed in for the rest of the half and moved Aviante Collins to left tackle while Brian O'Neill entered the game at right tackle.

Ifeadi Odenigbo playing left defensive end. Vikings moved him around on the interior last week with Jaleel Johnson, but have so little DE depth today (Weatherly and Wynn) that they're using him on the outside. Makes sense why he was listed "DL" on the roster.

The lone bright spot on the second team offense's first drive was Mike Boone's 3 carries for 34 yards. The Cincinnati product needs to string performances like that together in his battle with Roc Thomas for the No. 3 RB job. Thomas dominated last week in Denver with two touchdowns.

Riley Reiff's day is done as the second team offensive line takes shape. Lot of shifting going on. Aviante Collins moves over to left tackle, Brian O'Neill takes over at right tackle. Tom Compton, Cornelius Edison and Danny Isidora stay at the positions they started at on the interior with this unit.

Second team defense on the field. David Perry getting reps at nose tackle, Jaleel Johnson at 3 tech. It took until the 4th quarter in Denver before we saw 4th round pick Jalyn Holmes. Wonder if he'll come in earlier as they work on the interior rotation as they did last week with Ifeadi Odenigbo.

Nickel corner Mackensie Alexander questionable to return and is being evaluated for an ankle injury. An opportunity awaits rookie Mike Hughes, who is Alexander's competition in the slot.

Latavius Murray has two fumbles on five carries today, which is an anomaly considering how little he's fumbled over the first four year of his career. Had a total of eight through the 2017 season and only lost two.

On the first play right after Harrison Smith's interception, Latavius Murray has the ball stripped by Yannick Ngakoue. Ball security an issue for Murray in the first quarter. He doesn't fumble the ball often, but has 2 already this afternoon.

Mackensie Alexander nearly picks off a Blake Bortles pass on third down, and then Anthony Barr gets his shot at the rebound and can't make the grab.

Vikings O-line in front of Kirk Cousins is Reiff, Compton, Edison, Isidora, Collins. Remember, it took the Vikings the entire preseason last year to settle on their starting five at cut day, so it's not surprising that Brian O'Neill is not starting today in place of Rashod Hill. Mike Zimmer tried out a handful of combinations before settling on Reiff, Easton, Elflein, Berger, Remmers last year.

Emotional moment at US Bank Stadium. Tony Sparano's family, serving as honorary captains today, walk out to midfield for coin toss surrounded by Vikings offensive linemen.

Vikings hope to see more from Laquon Treadwell today, who only had one catch in last week's game at Denver despite playing 41 snaps. Treadwell has been a constant presence with the first-team offense since spring and is a favorite to win the No. 3 receiver job, but he needs a big preseason performance to solidify his role. We might not see the rest of the receiver battles take shape until Week 3 and 4 of the preseason due to Stacy Coley and Brandon Zylstra's absences today. That makes Saturday an important day for Kendall Wright, Cayleb Jones and Chad Beebe to make the most of their reps to prove why they should be considered for a spot.
